PORTSMOUTH, VA – ODU sophomore golfer Ashton Newsom (Chesapeake, VA.) tied for 22nd at the 58th annual Eastern Amateur which was played at Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club.
Newsom finished at +3 (69-67-70-73=279), tying for 22nd with Dylan Siebenaler, Steve Liebler, Ryan Douglass, and Justin Cho. Newsom finished the tournament with 12 birdies, and 49 pars. He had two birdies in Sunday’s final round.
Recent grad John Dawson (Chesapeake, VA. )finished tied for 66th after shooting 70-75-7470=289.
Chris Hickman from East Tennessee State is the winner of the 58th Eastern Amateur, going wire to wire. He opened with 61 and 10 birdies and by the time the delayed 2nd and 3rd rounds were complete, he had made 23 birdies and just 3 bogeys. He took a 7 shot lead into the final round. After missing birdie tries on the first 3 holes, he went long on 4 and made bogey.
