NORFOLK, Va. – Michelle Barr has joined the Old Dominion University women’s soccer staff as an assistant coach, as announced by Lady Monarch head coach, Angie Hind, on Friday afternoon.
“I am delighted to have Michelle Barr join the coaching staff here at Old Dominion,” exclaimed Hind. “Michelle brings a very strong playing and coaching background with her, having played at the national level as well as having considerable coaching experience due to her time at Dartmouth College and working with the Scottish Youth National Teams. I am excited for what she will bring both as a coach and in a recruiting sense, as we look to build this program towards future success.”
Michelle Barr will join the Monarch family after spending three years in her native Scotland developing the women’s soccer game at the Scottish Football Association as a National Youth Coach responsible for the Scottish National U15, U16 and U19 teams. Prior to her time in Scotland, Barr spent five years at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire as an assistant coach under the leadership of Angie Hind.
“I am really looking forward to joining Old Dominion University at what I believe to be an exciting time for the women’s soccer program,” said Barr. “I was so impressed by this University, the athletic facilities, and the support given to student-athletes; that teamed with the opportunity to be part of what I believe to be a great coaching staff has me genuinely excited. I’m eager to meet the team and become part of ODU women’s soccer.”
During her time with the Big Green, she helped the team to a 47-31-6 record, an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2005 and a national ranking as high as No. 13 in the nation in 2006.
As a former Scottish National Team defender for over a 10-year period, Barr represented her country with 87 contest appearances. Barr brings valuable wealth of playing experience from across Europe and the United States. Barr played professionally in England, Iceland, USA, and most recently as a player-coach with Rangers FC in Scotland.
Barr holds the NSCAA National Diploma, UEFA ‘A’ License, as well as the Scottish Football Association Children and Youth pathway. Barr has also obtained strength and conditioning qualifications from the UKSCA and has served as a National Scout.
