EDMOND, OK.--ODU's David Langley is tied for 14th after the first round of the 2014 Conference USA Men's Golf Championships at the Oak Tree Golf Club. Langley shot 73 in the first round and is six shots off the leader Logan McCraken of Tulsa (67).
Tulsa leads the 2014 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship by two strokes after the first round of competition at Oak Tree Country Club. Golden Hurricane Logan McCracken holds the individual lead at 3-under 67 after 18 holes on the par 70, 6,861-yard course.
Due to inclement weather in the area, tee times were pushed back four hours, with the first pairing teeing off at 11:42 a.m. CDT. Skies were clear during the round, but players faced winds up to 25 mph throughout competition.
McCracken started the day on hole 10 and fired a 4-under 31 on his opening nine, finishing with a 1-over 36 for a 3-under 67 18-hole total. He leads the field in par-4 scoring (-3, 3.75) and is tied for the most birdies (6). The Golden Hurricane were also buoyed by Matt Mabrey's even-par and a 3-over 73 by Colton Staggs.
No. 16 UAB is just two strokes shy of Tulsa in the standings, carding an opening-round 10-over 290. The Blazers' top performer is No. 74 Paul Dunne at even par (70). Teammates Martin Rohwer and Thomas Sutton sit tied for 14th at +3 (73).
Charlotte is currently in third place (290), followed by Middle Tennessee and Rice who are tied for fourth (293). The Owls boast a pair of par performers in Kevin Reilly and Tommy Economous who are tied for third in the individual standings. Reilly leads all players in par-5 scoring (-3, 3.50) and notched two of the three eagles recorded in round one.
