NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's lacrosse team erased a 4-0 deficit to tie No. 9 Johns Hopkins at halftime, but fell 14-5 Wednesday evening from the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Johns Hopkins (13-3) started fast leading 4-0 with goals from Sarah Taylor, Sammy Cermack and two from Taylor D'Amore.
ODU (3-12) answered with junior midfielder Christina Rea scoring her 27th and 28th goals on the year to cut the JHU lead to 4-2.
Lady Monarchs senior attacker Emily Austerberry set up junior attacker Jessica Liberty for her 22nd goal of the season at 8:38 as ODU trailed just 4-3.
As the half came to a close freshman midfielder Megan Topper sent a pass to freshman midfielder Connor Carson who scored her first of two goals on the day and 12th of the year as Old Dominion was tied with the Blue Jays 4-4 at halftime.
Johns Hopkins came out in the second half winning consecutive draw controls as the Cermack-D'Amore combination scored five times in the second half (eight total on the day).
ODU could not answer until 2:51 left in the game as Carson scored her second with an assist going to Megan Cameron.
Old Dominion freshman goalkeeper Maggi Buckley made a season-high 13 saves.
