CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA-- Number One ranked Virginia (24-4) scored seven runs with two outs in the sixth to defeat Old Dominion (16-12), 7-1 at Davenport Field Tuesday night.

The Monarchs lone run came in the eighth as Jordan Negrini led off with a double and later scored on a groundout double-play.

Nick Walker, Jordan Negrini, Brian Beard, PJ Higgins, Mike Perez and Tyler Urps each had a hit for ODU. Niegrini, Higgins and Perez each had doubles.

The two teams battled five-plus innings of score baseball. With two outs in the sixth inning, Daniel Pinero doubled home Robbie Coman and John La Prise for a 2-0 Cavalier lead. Brandon Downes and Joe McCarthy followed with two-run hits.Brandon Cogswell  and La Prise led Virginia with three hits on the night.  

The two teams will play again on April 29th at Harbor Park.

The Monarchs return to action Wednesday night at 6 p.m. when they host the Tribe of William and Mary in an Optima Health Challenge game.   If you can't make the game, listen to it live on STAR1310 AM with Ted Alexander and Doug Ripley providing the play-by-play.
