LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior attacker Jessica Liberty scored four goals to help lift Old Dominion to an 11-9 win against Liberty Sunday afternoon.

“It was important for us to refocus after halftime,” said ODU Head Coach Heather Holt. “Our shots just weren’t dropping today so in the second half we refocused and just tried to get two goals, which is what we did and then go from there. Overall it was a very good team effort today.”

The Lady Monarchs (2-4) scored the opening goal for the fourth consecutive game coming from redshirt sophomore Morgan Gallagher with the assist to freshman Connor Carson.

Liberty (1-6) answered with two goals to take a 2-1 lead until ODU's Jessica Liberty tallied her first of the night with the assist going to freshman Megan Topper.

“At halftime we realized we all just had to come together and make sure we had all the pieces,” said Jessica Liberty. “Everything on offense was clicking we just didn’t have our shots fall, so in the second half we came together and made it happen. It’s a great feeling to comeback and win.”

Senior attacker Emily Austerberry responded with her eighth goal of the season coming off a free position shot and Liberty scored her second of the first half to cut the Lady Flames lead to 6-4 entering halftime.

Old Dominion junior Ashmore Standing began the second half with her eighth goal of the year off a free position shot to cut the deficit to 6-5.

The Lady Flames scored twice to maintain an 8-5 lead until Jessica Liberty scored a hat trick off a free position shot.

ODU began the comeback with 12 minutes left down 9-6 with goals coming from Topper, Standing and Nicole Bellini’s first of the year to tie the game at 9-9 with 10 minutes left.

Junior midfielder Christina Rea scored her seventh of the season off a free position shot to give ODU the 10-9 lead and Liberty gave the Lady Monarchs one more goal to secure the 11-9 win.

Old Dominion freshman goalie Maggi Buckley picked up her first win of the season and made six saves.

The Lady Monarchs outshot the Lady Flames 41-21 and won the draw control battle by a 14-7 margin.

ODU forced 21 turnovers and picked up 18 ground balls. Old Dominion was able to clear 12 of 13 times and scored on four of eight free position shots.
