NORFOLK, Va. - Junior midfielder Ashmore Standing came away with two goals to lead ODU but the Lady Monarchs lost 9-5 to Richmond Wednesday evening at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

"We need to put a whole 60 minutes together," said ODU Head Coach Heather Holt. "I told the team afterwards the effort toward the end was phenominal. We went after it, we had many caused turnovers and that was awesome, but we can't save it till the last three minutes of the game. Our shots weren't dropping that well tonight. I think our defense stood up well and did a good job tonight. Maggi Buckley in goal came up with some big saves, but we have to have it happening on both ends. Once we put it together we are going to be great, but the effort tonight overall was outstanding. I'm proud of how we fought tonight."

ODU (1-4) struck first for the third straight game with a goal by Christina Rea.

Richmond (3-2) answered with four goals by Catherine Mctiernan, Brooke Wilson, Emily Doyle and Hayley Ross to take a 4-1 lead into halftime.

The Spiders entered the second half with three more goals coming off the sticks of Charlett Stevenson, Bailey Zerr and Emily Newman.

Old Dominion was able to respond with a goal by Standing to cut the Richmond lead to 7-2.

Newman picked up another goal with an assist to Anna Jeszeck to reclaim a six goal advantage.

Lady Monarchs sophomore midfielder Mary McCaleb entered the game and scored her sixth of the season at 17:50.

Jessica Liberty and Standing found the back of the net with goals coming with under two minutes to end a late comeback that fell short 9-5.
