HOWEY-IN-THE HILLS, FL—ODU’s Seth Sweet (Madison, ME) and Ashton Newsom (Chesapeake, VA.) finished in the top 20 of the second annual Mission Inn Spring Spectacular at the Resort Center and Club. As a team, the Monarchs finished fifth (300-311-305=916) after shooting the fourth best score of the final round.
Seth Sweet, a sophomore (78-75-74-227) tied for 15th with McClaine Hughes of Virginia tech and Austin King of Western Kentucky after shooting 74 in today’s final round. Sophomore Ashton Newsom (77-75-76 =228) tied for 18th with Jacob Groninger of IPFW. John Dawson also shot 75 today ( 72 84 75=231) to finish in a tie for 23rd.
Virginia Tech (875) won the event by five strokes over Texas Tech, while Tech’s Trevor Cone captured the individual title (67-73-71) with a 211 score. ODU returns to action April 7 and 8 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
