JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior attacker Jessica Liberty finished with three goals to lead the Lady Monarchs but Old Dominion fell 20-11 to Jacksonville University Saturday afternoon.
ODU managed to score the first three goals of the game, coming from Ashmore Standing, Morgan Gallagher and Emily Austerberry. Gallagher and Austerberry's coming off free position shots.
The Lady Monarchs took a 4-1 lead when Megan Topper scored with an assist coming from Ashmore Standing.
Jacksonville took control the next seven minutes scoring six goals to take a 7-4 lead.
Old Dominion's Megan Cameron gave the team a lift with her first of the game to cut the Dolphin lead to 7-5, but JU tallied four more before the end of the half to take a 11-6 lead into the break.
Jacksonville began the second half with two goals just 16 seconds a part to regain a seven goal advantage.
Liberty and Christina Rea would give ODU a chance to comeback, scoring the next three goals of the game to cut the JU lead to 13-9.
The Dophins finished the game scoring seven of the last nine, while Liberty and Gallagher each added one more goal for ODU.
The Dolphins outshot the Lady Monarchs 45-20 and managed to win the draw control and ground ball battle.
ODU freshman goalkeeper Maggi Buckley suffered her first career loss while saving nine shots. Junior goalie Karen Hayde also made five saves for the Lady Monarchs.
