NORFOLK, Va. - The Lady Monarchs field hockey team has announced the addition of five student-athletes for the 2014 season, including three from Virginia and two from Pennsylvania.
Danielle Grega (Kingston, Pa.), Anna Kimidy (Norfolk, Va.), Jennifer Klein (Virginia Beach, Va.), Carrie Sensenig (Denver, Pa.) and Kristen Vick (Suffolk, Va.) will be part of the Lady Monarchs roster this upcoming season.
"We are pleased to welcome Danielle, Anna, Jennifer, Carrie and Kristen to ODU to join our team and our field hockey family," said ODU field hockey Head Coach Andrew Griffiths. "These are five athletic players who understand our approach to the game, and are prepared to work hard to help the team to be successful. I am looking forward to starting work with them, and I feel confident in their ability to step into our program and make a positive impact on the field and on our team culture. This is also a strong class academically, and I know they will make great contributions to the University."
Danielle Grega (Wyoming Valley West HS/Pa.)
Position: Forward
A native of Kingston, Pa., Grega was a First Team All-State selection and was her high school's leading scorer with 51 points, good for fifth in the Wyoming Valley Conference. Her career-high 22 goals placed her fourth in the league. She had six multiple-goal games and picked up four of her seven assists in a single game. During her career Grega registered 50 goals and 27 assists.
Grega was a WVC Coaches First-Team All-Star, the WVC Class 3A Leading Scorer and an NFHCA All-American Academic Award winner. She is a four-year member of the National Honor Society and a three-year citizenship award winner.

Lady Monarchs coach Andrew Griffiths: "Danielle is a skillful, aggressive forward who creates outcomes in the circle. She likes to shoot and is a goalscorer, but plays smart and will draw penalty corners effectively. She is an intense competitor and is physically strong and balanced on the field."
Anna Kimidy (Maury HS/Va.)
Position: Forward
A Norfolk, Va. native, Kimidy was a First-Team All-District (’10, ’11, ’12, ’13) while in high school. Kimidy scored 102 goals and 78 assists as a four-year Varsity starter. During her senior season Kimidy tallied 40 goals and 22 assists. She also received 2nd Team All-Region (’10, ’11, ’12), First-Team All-Region (’13) and First-Team All-Tidewater (2013) honors. Kimidy is a National Honor Society member, a member of the National French Honor Society and an Honor Roll member all semesters while in high school.

Lady Monarchs coach Andrew Griffiths: "Anna is a forward with good ball control and excellent eye-hand coordination. Her movement as she receives the ball is dangerous, she has a long reach and the ability to move the ball deceptively, eliminate, and score goals."
Jennifer Klein (Floyd E. Kellam HS/Va.)
Position: Midfield
A Virginia Beach, Va. native, Klein was named to the Virginia All-Star Team. She was named First-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-Region. She is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
Other Schools Considered: Christopher Newport, Pennsylvania, Notre Dame, Longwood, and William & Mary.
In her own words "Why ODU": "Old Dominion University offered the major I was looking for along with an incredible field hockey program complemented with an accessible coaching staff and committed teammates that have fun while working hard for a common goal. Old Dominion University has long been a part of my life, my mother and father both attended the school and my brother is currently pursuing his degree from ODU and we have always followed ODU sports. Being accepted to the school was very exciting, but on top of that being able to play for my dream school is indescribable."
Lady Monarchs coach Andrew Griffiths: "Jennifer is an effective midfielder on both sides of the ball. She passes well and understands how to play possession hockey. She is also aggressive and balanced defensively. Both of these attributes fit well with our style of play."
Carrie Sensenig (Cocalico HS/Pa.)
Position: Midfield
A native of Denver, Pa. Sensenig registered 32 goals and 15 assists during her career at Cocalico. Sensenig accolades include being named to the PHSFHCA All-State 1st Team, a Section II First-Team All-Star, a First-Team All-Star (twice), an All-League Team member, a Senior All-Star game Offensive MVP and an LL-League All-Academic Team. As a junior, she was named to the L-L League Coaches Association All-Star Section II Second Team.
Fun fact: Carrie's older sister is 2008 Olympian Dana Sensenig Risser (29), who played for Old Dominion from 2003-2006.

Lady Monarchs coach Andrew Griffiths: "Carrie is a determined competitor, who has a high level of understanding the game. She is a versatile player who could play on all three lines if needed. She has good vision of the field, a strong skill set and makes excellent decisions distributing the ball."
Kristen Vick (Lakeland HS/Va.)
Position: Midfield
A Suffolk, Va. native, Vick was named to the First-Team All-District team. Her accolades include All-Region & a 4A All-State member as a senior. Vick was a three-time captain and as a junior was named Southeastern District Player of the Year. As a junior, Vick was a 1st team All-region and 2nd Team All-State member. As a sophomore, she was named First-Team All-District and All-Region. As a freshman, Vick collected First-Team All-District, All-Region and Second-Team All-State honors. She is a National Honor Society member.
In her own words "Why ODU": "I chose ODU because of the great atmosphere that surrounds it. They have a great field hockey program. Both the coaches and team have a positive attitude and dedication towards the game. ODU also offers many opportunities for the major I am considering."
Lady Monarchs coach Andrew Griffiths: "Kristen is developing into a strong athlete physically. She has an attacking mindset, and is excellent at moving out of the backfield or midfield with the ball into space. She also sees the field well and can generate momentum going forward, either carrying the ball or distributing."
