Tulsa Defeats Monarchs

TULSA, OK-- ODU freshman Ambrose Mosley scored 12 points  and junior forward Richard Ross added 11 in the Monarchs 76-37 loss at Tulsa Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs return home to play Rice next Thursday in the first a three-game home stand.

ODU shot .277 (13-47) from the field, while Tulsa shot .574 (27-47).  ODU also committed 22 turnovers in which Tulsa scored 23 points off of but ODU managed just five from 21 TU turnovers.

Tulsa had four players in double figures led by James Woodard with 14, followed by Tim Pete with 12, Rashad Smith 11 and Brandon Swannegan scored 10. The Golden Hurricane outrebounded ODU, 34-21.

ODU took a 3-2 lead after a Richard Ross free throw at the 17:24 mark of the first half. Dimitri Batten tied the game at 6-6 with a three-pointer and Ambrose Mosley made it 9-8 Tulsa with a two-pointer with 14:24 remaining. Tulsa then went on an 18-7 run to take a 31-15 lead with 7:56 left in the first half, and 40-20 at halftime.

Keenan Palmore led ODU with three assists and three steals, while Aaron Bacote also had three steals. In all, ODU came up with a game high 11 steals which his the second highest of the season.  Richard Ross was 4-for-8 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line. For Mosley, this was his second straight game leading the Monarchs in scoring. He had a career high 21 at North Texas. 

The 37 points was the lowest in a game for the Monarchs since moving up to Division I in 1976-77. The previous low was 39 in a 59-39 decision to UNC Wilmington on March 3, 1996 CAA Tournament. ODU is now 12-14 overall and 6-5 in C-USA and Tulsa improves to 13-12 overall and 8-3 in C-USA.
