WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion University men’s swimming and diving team fell at William and Mary, 140-122, while the women’s squad dropped a 174-88 decision Saturday afternoon at W&M.
The Lady Monarchs got their first win in the 1000 free, as Yesim Giresunlu was victorious with a time of 10:21.75.
Savannah Bowers earned a win in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.23 while Julia Vido won the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:06.45.
Vido was also a winner in the 200 backstroke at 2:21.66 while Giresunlu also won the 500 free.
The men swept the top three in the 1000 free, as Bernardo Figuiredo just edged Tyler Anderson by less than a second, and Andrew Cook finished in third.
In another tight race, Vitor Sa just edged Sidni Hoxha in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.12 while Hoxha finished in 1:42.05.
Reed Mathews notched a win the 200 fly in 1:53.06 while Hoxha won the 50 free in 20.70. Hoxha just edged the Tribe’s Billy Russell by .4 to win the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.43.
After finishing third in the 1000 free, Cook came back to win the 500 free while the Monarchs ended the meet with a win in the 400 free relay in a time of 3:05.45. Jason Zeidler, Eddie Hubert, Sa and Hoxha were a part of the victory.
The Monarchs are off until the Conference USA Championships from Feb. 26-1 March 1, held in Atlanta, Ga.
