ODU takes on William and Mary in Final Regular-Season Meet

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Old Dominion University swimming and diving completes the 2013-14 regular season on Saturday, Jan. 25 when they travel to William and Mary for a noon start.

The meet will also be crucial in the standings for the Optimal Health Challenge between the Tribe and the Monarchs.  The score is currently tied at 20 apiece, with just baseball and women’s lacrosse events remaining after the swim meet.

The ODU men are coming off a thrilling 149.5-144.5 win over East Carolina that wasn’t clinched until the final race of the meet, as the ODU men won the 400-meter relay by .18 to win the meet.  The Lady Monarchs fell to the unbeaten Pirates, 183-117.

On the men’s side, Sidni Hoxha won the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles while Reed Mathews set a pool record set a J.C. Scrap Chandler Pool record in the 200 fly.

Vitor Sa won the 100 fly while Tyler Anderson was victorious in the 1000 free.

On the women’s side, Rachel Eckert won the 1 and 3-meter dives, while Yesim Giresunlu won the 500 and 1000 freestyle.  Juliana dos Santos won the 50 free and Colleen VandePoel was triumphant in the 100 and 200 backstroke.

This is the final meet for ODU until the Conference USA Championships that will be held on Feb. 26-March 1 in Atlanta, Ga.
