NORFOLK, Va. – The Blazers from UAB took down the Old Dominion University women’s basketball team, 80-64, on Wednesday night at the Ted Constant Center on Military Appreciation Night.UAB’s Karisma Chapman (10-13 FT’s) led all scorers and rebounders with 28 points and 17 boards; Chapman also dished out five assists in the winning effort.
Galaisha Goodhope’s layup with 44 seconds left in the first half put an end to UAB’s 12-1 run and cut the Lady Monarch’s deficit to 42-32 heading into the locker rooms. With 4:58 remaining in regulation, UAB went on a 15-0 run to extend their lead to 73-55 and ultimately put the Lady Monarchs away.
Leading the way for the Lady Monarchs (9-10, 2-3) was sophomore guard, Galaisha Goodhope who netted 16 points, distributed a career-high seven assists and hauled down six rebounds. Also in double figures for Old Dominion were: juniors Shae Kelley (14 points, eight rebounds and three steals) and Chelisa Painter (13 points and nine rebounds). Becca Allison did a little bit of everything for ODU on Wednesday night, as she went for nine points, six boards, four assists and four steals.
The Blazers (11-7, 3-2) also got key contributions from Ashley Grimes (21 points, six rebounds and six assists) and Chelsee Black (12 points and seven rebounds).
For the game, UAB was 44.6% (29-65) from the floor, 33.3% (6-18) from downtown and 72.7% (16-22) from the charity stripe. Old Dominion shot 40.3% (27-67) from the field, 26.7% (4-15) from three and 54.5% (6-11) from the free-throw line.
First Half Notes
At the first media timeout, UAB held a slim 15-13 lead over Old Dominion. By the second media timeout of the first half, the ballgame was all nodded at 19 apiece. With 7:28 remaining in the opening half, Old Dominion led 29-26, while at that mark, both teams were shooting over 50% from the floor.
The Blazers would end the first half leading the Lady Monarchs, 42-32. At the midway point, UAB's Karisma Chapman led all scorers and rebounders with 15 points and nine rebounds. ODU's Galaisha Goodhope and UAB's Ashley Grimes each netted 11 points. Old Dominion’s Becca Allison and Shae Kelley both had six first half points.
For the half, the Blazers shot 52.9% (18-34) from the floor, 37.5% (3-8) from three-point land and 60% (3-5) from the free-throw line. UAB led points in the paint, 33-22. ODU was 40.5% (15-37) from the floor, just 10% (1-10) from downtown and 50% (1-2) on FT's. ODU's bench outscored UAB's in the 1st half, 11-6.

The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team will hit the road to take on the conference’s top team, Middle Tennessee State (15-3, 4-0), Saturday, January 25, at 5:00 p.m. EST/4:00 p.m. (CT) in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
