The 2013-14 UAB Blazer’s (10-7, 2-2)
On Saturday, UAB lost a heartbreaker to Middle Tennessee, in a game that the Blazers were ahead by 12 in the first half, but just couldn’t hold off the Blue Raiders down the stretch. The Blazers were only able to get to the charity stripe five times, compared to Middle Tennessee’s 16 FTA’s. Three players finished the game with double figures, including: Chelsee Black who contributed 15 points, Ashley Grimes netted 12 points and Karisma Chapman earned her fourth double-double in a row after turning in 10 points and 10 rebounds.

This season, the Blazers have been led by the senior, Chapman, who is averaging over 19 points and 10 rebounds in Conference USA games this season. Chapman, the Pre-Season All Conference Team member, has recorded a double-double in all four C-USA games to this point, and has accumulated a total of seven on the season. Grimes (15.5 ppg) and Black (14.8) are also averaging double figures this season. Chapman, Grimes and Black have scored in double figures together 11 times this season. UAB also has one of the best defenses in Conference USA, ranking third in scoring defense, field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage.

This is UAB’s head coach, Randy Norton’s first season with the Blazers. In all, Randy has 30 years of coaching experience and 10 at the Division I level. Last year, as the associate head coach, Norton helped his Missouri Tigers earn a win over No. 9 Tennessee and a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

So far this season the Lady Monarchs have been led by: Shae Kelley (16.9 points, 10.7 rebounds), Tiffany Minor (9.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg), Stephanie Gardner (8.4 ppg), Chelisa Painter (8.3 ppg, 5.2 rebounds) and Galaisha Goodhope (7.7 ppg, 3.3 apg). The Lady Monarchs are averaging 69.4 points a game and hitting 40.9 percent of their field goals on the season.

Shae Kelley will be seeking her 13th double-double of the season on Wednesday.

Old Dominion’s Last Outing
The Lady Monarchs handled the Owls of FAU with relative ease on Saturday night, beating them by a final score of 80-44. This win boosts the Lady Monarchs to an even .500 overall (9-9) and conference play (2-2).
