NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s tennis team will kick off their 2014 spring season on Saturday, Jan. at home (Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center) against Howard at noon and then against Norfolk State at 6 p.m.

“Last weekend (at the Hurricane Invite) we looked great,” said Old Dominion’s head coach Dom Manilla. Manilla continued, “Ingrid Vojcinakova and Marijana Novakovic have just been incredible; they have really embraced the attitude and the culture that we have tried to create here with the team. They have really blended well and bought into everything and are competing at a very high level.”

Meet Howard
The Lady Bison finished second in the HBCU National Championships in September. The tournament featured 25 teams from several conferences, including the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC).

Howard finished as National Runners-Up behind Bethune-Cookman University.

The Lady Bison are led by senior Katelyn Stokes who finished last season with a 9-3 singles record.

Meet Norfolk State
The Norfolk State women’s tennis team completed the ITA Regional with freshman Liza Gordeeva losing in the opening round. Sophomore Andrea Macchiavello also lost in the opening match of the consolation bracket.

NSU is led by junior Mafalda Lhorca and Macchiavello. Lhorca finished last season with a 10-5 singles record, while Macchiavello completed the season with a 9-6 singles record.
