NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team (8-9, 1-2) will return home Sat., Jan. 18, for their second home conference affair of the season, as the Lady Monarchs will take on the Owls of Florida Atlantic University (11-5, 1-2) at 7:00 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Saturday night’s game will also be Alumni Night for the ODU women’s basketball program.

Saturday’s game will be aired live with the voice of the Lady Monarchs, Doug Ripley handling the on-air duties. Doug’s broadcast will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a pre-game show from the Ted Constant Center. The 2013-14 FAU Owls (11-5, 1-2)
The FAU Owls suffered their first loss at home this season on Wednesday night against the Panthers of FIU, 96-88. The Panthers also gave them their last loss at home as well. Takia Brooks led The Owls in scoring with 16 points. The game featured 15 lead changes, but the Owls were unable to stop the Panthers who shot 73.3% in the second half.

The Owls are led by Senior guard Latavia Brooks who is averaging 13.8 points and Chenise Miller with 13.4. Miller was second team All-Sun Belt Conference last year and also won Conference USA player of the week honors in December along with teammate Takia Brooks.

Kellie Lewis-Jay returns for her second year at the helm for FAU after a 12-17 overall record in the Owls final season in the Sun Belt Conference. She has also represented the Pac 10, Big 12 and Big Ten conferences as an assistant coach in the NCAA Tournament.

Before the season, Florida Atlantic was predicted to finish tied for 14th in the C-USA.

The 2013-14 Old Dominion University Lady Monarch’s (8-9)
The Lady Monarchs are coming off their biggest victory of the season, which was on the road against a 13-2 Southern Miss. squad.

Old Dominion is led by Shae Kelley (16.8 points, 10.5 rebounds), Tiffany Minor (9.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg), Stephanie Gardner (8.8 ppg), Chelisa Painter (7.8 ppg, 5.0 rebounds) and Galaisha Goodhope (7.8 ppg, 3.3 apg). The Lady Monarchs are averaging 68.8 points a game and hitting 40.4 percent of their field goals on the season.

Shae Kelley will be seeking her league leading 12th double-double of the season on Saturday.

Old Dominion’s Last Outing
Five Lady Monarchs scored double-figures to lift the Old Dominion over So. Miss. 92-82, giving ODU their first ever win in Conference USA. With the win, Old Dominion snapped USM’s 12-game home win-streak.

Shae Kelley recorded her 11th double-double of the season and led the Lady Monarchs with 25 points (7-12 FG, 11-15 FT), 11 rebounds, three blocks and two assists. Also in double figures for Old Dominion were: Chelisa Painter (17 points on 7-13 FG’s and six rebounds), Galaisha Goodhope (15 points on 5-7 shooting and 2-3 from downtown, as well as six assists, six steals and five rebounds), Tiffany Minor (14 points on 4-6 shooting from behind the arc, four assists and two steals), and Stephanie Gardner (11 points, 3-5 FG’s).

Old Dominion dished out a total of 18 assists compared to USM’s 13; the Lady Monarchs also outscored the Lady Eagles on the bench, 10-2.

For the game, Old Dominion shot a blistering 60.4% (29-48) from the field, 61.5% (8-13) from three and 66.7% (26-39) from the free-throw line. So. Miss. was 39.5% (30-76) form the floor, 30% (9-30) from downtown and 61.9% (13-21) from the charity stripe.
