NORFOLK, Va.- The Virginia Sports Information Directors named Old Dominion field hockey players Christy Longacre, Kelsey Smither and Rosario Villagra to the Virginia All-State field hockey First Team, which was announced Monday morning.
Senior back Christy Longacre (Bethlehem, Pa.) earned First Team All-State for the second straight season. Longacre was named a NFHCA First Team All-American and the Big East Defensive Player of the Year. She started all 21 games, recorded three goals and nine points and helped pave the way for the Lady Monarchs 12 game winning streak.
Junior midfielder Kelsey Smither (Suffolk, Va.) was recognized as a First Team All-State selection for the first time in her career (Second Team All-State last year). Smither was named a NFHCA Second Team All-American following the 2013 season. She was also named to the Big East All-Tournament Team and All-Big East First Team. Smither started all 21 games and led the Lady Monarchs with 14 assists. She led in the Big East in assists per game and ranked fourth nationally.
Junior forward Rosario Villagra (Salta, Argentina) made the First Team All-State for the first time in her career (Second Team All-State last year). She was named Big East Offensive Player of the Year during the season and took All Big-East First Team honors. Villagra started all 21 games, recorded a team-high 14 goals, 41 points and five game-winning goals.
