NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Universty women’s swimming and diving team defeated UMBC while the men’s squad lost by just 19 points to the Retrievers Saturday afternoon in Norfolk.
The women’s 200 medley relay team of Colleen VandePoel, Julia Vido, MacKenzie Payment and Juliana dos Santos started the meet with a win in a time of 1:45.67.
Yesim Giresunlu was a winner in the 1000 free while Tyler Anderson won the men’s 1000 free. Giresunlu won again, this time in the 500 free, in a time of 5:07.18.
ODU swept the 200 free as Savannah Bowers and Sidni Hoxha won the event while VandePoel was a winner in the 100 back stroke with a time of 57.86. VandePoel delivered her third win of the day, this the 200 back stroke, in a time of 2:06.81.
Reed Mathews was triumphant in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:53.72.
The Monarchs took both of the 50 free events, as dos Santos won in a time of 23.91 while Sidni Hoxha was a winner in 20.53. Hoxha also won the 100 free in a time of 45.35.
Rachel Eckert continue her mastery at diving, winning both the 1 and 3-meter dives.
The Monarchs are back in action next Saturday, Nov. 9 when they host St. Andrews at 1 p.m.
