NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team defeated fellow Conference USA foe, East Carolina on Friday night 2-0 at the ODU Soccer Complex. The Lady Monarchs made their first ever C-USA home game a memorable one on Homecoming weekend in front over 600 fans.

ODU wasted little time getting on the offensive attack, when Jordan Jones found Jessie Klamut, who nailed a shot off the right post and into ECU’s net, giving Old Dominion a 1-0 lead, 10 minutes into the game. Klamut’s goal was her second on the season.

Old Dominion’s freshman keeper, Meredith Lenox played brilliantly all game for Joe Pereira’s Lady Monarchs. In the 15th minute of play, ECU’s Jenna Geist had a one on one with Lenox, but it was Lenox who came up with a glove save to stop the Pirates attack. Old Dominion took the one goal advantage into halftime.

At the half, ODU led the shot count (9-6), as well as the corner kick count (4-2).

In the 87th minute, Jackie Stroud tapped an indirect free kick to teammate, Taylor Smith, who ripped her shot past ECU’s diving keeper, Saundra Baron. Thus giving the Lady Monarchs a 2-0 lead and victory over the Pirates of East Carolina University.

Old Dominion and East Carolina are now both 1-2 in conference play, as the CUSA East Division race remains tight.
