NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s field hockey team rose five spots this week, from No. 10 to No. 5 and received a first place vote in the latest NFHCA poll after defeating then No. 4 Connecticut and then No. 2 North Carolina this past weekend.

ODU (11-6) has won ten straight games and have not lost since Sept. 20, which is the second longest winning streak in the NCAA (Penn State has 12 wins in a row). During the Monarchs winning streak they have outscored their opponents by a combined 41-6.

Four Big East teams are ranked, Old Dominion (No. 5), Connecticut (No. 8), Louisville (No. 15) and Temple (No. 17).

Senior back Christy Longacre was recently named Big East Defensive Player of the Week. She had two assists on Sunday against North Carolina and helped ODU shutout Connecticut on Friday. Junior forward Rosario Villagra was also named to the Big East Honor Roll after her one goal and three assist performance last weekend.

ODU finishes the Big East regular season against Rutgers on Friday at 1 p.m. and will try to capture at least a share of their first Big East regular season title.
