MYRTLE BEACH, SC—The ODU Monarchs shot the third best round of the day at 282 and moved up to fifth place after 36 holes of the Golfweek Program Challenge at the True Blue Course. Individually, sophomore Ashton Newsom (Chesapeake, VA.) jumped 12 spots to sixth after firing a 68 in today’s round, just six strokes behind the leader.
James Madison leads the event with a 565 by one stroke over IUPUI who shot 565. ODU’s 36 hole score is 575, just one stroke behind Jacksonville State and only four strokes behind third place Akron.
Newsom had six birdies today, three on the front and three on the back for his 68 and 36 hole score of 141 trailing co-leaders J.T. Poston of Western Carolina, and Peter Webb of Valparaiso who are at 135 by six strokes. Newsom is tied for sixth with Franco Grillo of Jacksonville State, Ryan Horner of Northern Iowa, Poom Pattaropong of JMU and rob van de Vin of IUPUI.
ODU freshman David Langley (Buckinghamshire, England) shot 71 today for a 144 and is tied for 17th with teammate Jamison Randall (Cumberland, R.I.). The final round of the event is Tuesday.
