NORFOLK, Va. -- The eighth ranked Lady Monarchs field hockey team hosts the seventh ranked University of Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Old Dominion must rebound quickly after losing 3-0 to the second ranked University of Maryland. Virginia will also be no easy task, but ODU's last loss to Virginia at home came in 2009.
"Virginia is always a talented and strong team," said head coach Andrew Griffiths. "We expect it to be a great game - they have some dangerous players, but our team is developing well defensively. We need to take advantage of our goalscoring opportunities in open play and on corners."
Before last night, the last time ODU was shutout came against Maryland on November 18, 2011. ODU has not lost back-to-back home games since 2010 (Maryland and Duke).
Virginia opened their regular season with wins against Louisville (3-2), No. 6 Penn State (4-2) and Yale (6-1). The Cavaliers went to the Elite 8 in the 2012 NCAA Tournament before falling 5-2 to Princeton.
