Kevin Sutton begins his first season on the Old Dominion Universitybasketball staff. Last season, Sutton served as athletic director and headbasketball coach at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, MD.
Sutton was selected the beltway basketball League Coach-of-the Year in1999 after Montrose captured the conference championship. The squad posteda 32-6 record and was rankedas high as #18 in the Washington, DC area. The Mustangs finished second inthe nation among Christian Schools.
Sutton previously served as the associate head coach atSt. John's Prospect Hall in Frederick, MD., from 1992-1998. During hisstint at St. John's, he coached ten nationally ranked teams, including the1998 team that earned No. 1 status. He has helped develop numerous greatplayers in Randolph Childress, Nate James, Serge Zwikker, George Lynch,Cameron Dollar and Jason Capel.
In addition to his stints at Montrose and St. John's, Sutton servedas assistant coach at Harker Preparatory School in Potomac, MD., from1990-1992 and as an assistant coach atFlint Hill Prep in Falls Church from 1988-1990.
A 1988 graduate of James Madison University in trade andindustrial education with a minor in psychology. Sutton served as agraduate assistant coach for the Dukes from 1986-88. He and wife Ivettehave a son, Isaiah, born in March 24, 1999.
