WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Old Dominion University women's tennis battled hard in their final match of the regular-season but fell in a tough 4-3 match at No. 41 William and Mary on Saturday.
The Lady Monarchs fall to 12-8 on the year while the Tribe improve to 15-5.
W&M earned the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Jeltje Loomans got the Tribe on the board in singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 and Leeza Nemchinov earned a victory at No. 2 singles.
No. 124 Maria Belaya defeated Diana Ivanova in a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 match to clinch the win for W&M.
Melissa Esnal Olguin earned ODU's first win of the match while Nikol Hristova completed a three-set 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles. Nika Khmolovska defeated Sydney Smith at No. 6, 6-4, 6-2.
The match was part of the Optima Health Challenge between the two schools, which W&M took a 55-45 advantage with just two events to play. The Men's tennis teams and baseball teams are yet to play, with the tennis teams playing later today.
The Lady Monarchs return to action April 18-21 when they head to Houston, Texas, to compete in the Conference USA Tournament.
