NORFOLK, Va. NORFOLK, VA--Jonathan Arledge scored 21 points and hauled down seven rebounds to lead the Patriots of George Mason to an 85-74 victory over ODU Monday night at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

Mason improves to 14-9 overall and 7-4 in the CAA, while the Monarchs are 2-20 overall and 0-10 in the CAA. ODU has lost 10 straight.

Three Monarchs scored in double figures led by DeShawn Painter with 14 points, Richard Ross with 13 and Aaron Bacote had 12.

The Monarchs led 25-24 with 4:44 left in the first half on a three-pointer by red-shirt junior forward Anton Larsen, but Patrick Holloway came right back and nailed a trey to give the Patriots back the lead for good at 27-25. Mason went into halftime with a 43-31 lead.

Mason led by as many as 21, 57-36 with 15:38 left, but the Monarchs fought back and cut it to nine, 71-62 with 4:46 left in the game after two Keenan Palmore free throws, but could get no closer.

The Monarchs were outrebounded, 39-26 as Sherrod Wright led Mason with nine rebounds, followed by Arledge with seven. ODU was led by DeShawn Painter and Nick Wright with six recoveries each.

ODU freshmen Aaron Bacote and Keenan Palmore both dished out six assists and ODU came up with 10 steals after forcing the Patriots into 17 turnovers, while only committing 11. Red-shirt sophomore Dimitri Batten led with four steals, followed by Palmore with three steals.

The Monarchs also blocked nine shots, led by red-shirt sophomore Richard Ross with five. Ross has swatted 19 shots in the last five games. This is the third game he has blocked five. The other two were against Georgia State at home and Towson at home.

George Mason had five players score in double figures as they shot .500 (27-54) from the floor and .636 (7-11) from beyond the arc.

ODU returns to action Thursday night when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Dragons of Drexel in a nationally televised contest on NBCSN at 7 p.m.
