HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team saw their three-game win streak come to an end on Thursday night at the JMU Convocation Center behind a large second half by James Madison who came out victorious, 77-61.
After a highly competitive first half that saw James Madison take a 32-30 halftime lead, JMU outscored Old Dominion (19-10, 10-7) in the second half, 45-31, to pull away for the victory. The Dukes had used a 46-25 advantage on the boards along with 21-second chance points to put away ODU.
The Lady Monarchs shot 52.9 percent in the first (9-for-17) as sophomore Jackie Cook scored in double figures for the fifth straight game and team-leading 21st time this season with 13 points.
The Dukes were led by the duo of freshman Precious Hall who had a game-high 23 points and senior Tarik Hislop who scored 18 to go with three assists. While shooting just 7.1 percent (1-for-14) in the first half behind the arc, JMU was able to connect on two of their five three-pointers in the second half and shot 56.7 percent overall after halftime (17-for-30). Jazmon Gwathmey added a double double for the Dukes with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Redshirt senior Mairi Buchan and sophomore Ashley Betz-White each added nine points to pace ODU while junior Shakeva Richards added seven points and a rebound.
Old Dominion closes out the regular season in their CAA finale on Sunday in Boston with a 2 p.m. tip. at Northeastern.
