LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Old Dominion University lacrosse struggled to find scoring opportunities and to containing the opposition’s attack on Saturday afternoon as they fell at UofL Lacrosse Stadium to Louisville, 21-3.

The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead and never looked back as they held a 35-15 advantage in shots and took a 14-3 lead into halftime.

Old Dominion (0-2), who was held scoreless in the second half, found the net in the third minute of the game behind sophomore midfielder Ashmore Standing, who scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Senior attacker Meredith Rogers scored the remaining two goals for the Lady Monarchs in the first half as she tallied her 22nd and 23rd career goals on Saturday. Sophomore goalkeeper Karen Hayde made six saves on the afternoon.

For Louisville (3-0), freshman midfielder Kaylin Morissette led the way with five goals and four draw controls while junior midfielder Nikki Boltja added four goals. Freshman attacker Erika Eipp had a team-high five assists as eight different Cardinals registered a goal on the day.

U of L had a 15-11 advantage in draw controls and caused 14 of ODU’s 16 turnovers while the Lady Monarchs caused eight of the Cardinals’ 12 turnovers.

Senior midfielder Shelby Davis earned a team-high three draw controls while scooping up three groundballs while senior midfielder Carolyn Burns grabbed a team-high four groundballs. 

The three goals scored by ODU is their fewest since a 16-2 loss to No. 3 North Carolina in 2010 while the 18-point margin of defeat is their largest since a 20-1 defeat to No. 5 Virginia in 2005.

Old Dominion returns to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in their home and CAA opener at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex when they take on rival William and Mary as part of the annual Optima Health Challenge.
