NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University football had a record setting season in 2012, breaking several NCAA team and individual records, leading the nation in several categories while it was all culminated with sophomore quarterback Taylor Heinicke winning the Walter Payton Award to the best player in the FCS.
ODU led the FCS in scoring offense, total offense and passing offense and finished in the top-15 in seven other categories. Heinicke led the nation in eight passing categories while wide receiver Nick Mayers finished tied for second in the nation in touchdown catches. Kicker Jonathan Plisco was fifth in punting average.
Heinicke broke several passing records, including passing yards in a season, while Jonathan Plisco set the FCS career record for punting average at 45.1 yards per punt.
