Bobby Wilder Named CaptainU FCS Coach of the Year

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University football head coach Bobby Wilder was named the FCS Football Fall 2012 CaptainU Coach of the Year, the publication announced.

Wilder led the Monarchs to the best record in the CAA and finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in the national polls. ODU earned the No. 4 seed in the FCS playoffs and advanced to the quarterfinals.

The Monarchs led the FCS in scoring offense, total offense and passing offense. Sophomore quarterback Taylor Heinicke won the Walter Payton Award as the best player in the FCS and earned multiple All-America honors, while wide receiver Nick Mayers, offensive lineman Chris Burnette, linebacker Craig Wilkins and punter Jonathan Plisco have all earned All-America accolades.

With ODU's 11-2 record, Wilder has led the Monarchs to a 38-10 mark in just four seasons of football. Wilder and the Monarchs will be moving up to Conference USA in 2014 and will be playing four FBS opponents in 2013, including the season opener at East Carolina on August, 31.

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly was named the FBS CaptainU Coach of the Year while John Wristen of Colorado State-Pueblo was the Division II Coach of the Year and Pat Cerroni of Wisconsin-Oskosh was the Division III Coach of the Year.
