NORFOLK, Va. - Melissa Esnal Olguin battled back from a 5-2 deficit in the second set to win 7-5 and won the third set 6-3 to give Old Dominion University women's tennis a dramatic 4-3 win over UMBC Sunday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.

ODU improves to 4-0 on the year while UMBC drops to 0-3.

With the match tied at three apiece, Esnal Olguin dropped her first set 7-5, but battled back to win five-straight games in the second and kept the momentum in a 6-3 match clinching win over Shannon Cleary at No. 3 singles.

UMBC won the doubles point but Nikol Hristova got the Lady Monarchs on the board with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.

Nika Khmolovska followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles to put ODU on top 2-1.

Ivana Vukovic put ODU one win away from the team victory with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at No. 3 singles.

Julia Sauer and Kim Berghaus evened up the team score for UMBC with wins at No. 4 and No. 1, respectively, leading the way for Esnal Olguin's thrilling win.

Heidi Danielsson and Cleary were 8-4 winners at No. 3 doubles while Josefin Strange-Jonsson were 8-6 winners at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point for the Retrievers.

ODU is back in action on Friday, Feb. 1 when they travel to TCU.
