Monarchs Take on ECU; Lady Monarchs Set to Compete Against ECU & Campbell

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University men's and women's swimming/diving teams will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Greenville, N.C. The men will compete against East Carolina University; while the women will take on ECU and the Fighting Camels of Campbell University. Competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. in the `Minges Natatorium'.

ECU's men will enter Saturday's meet with a 4-1 record in their duals meets. ECU's women are currently 5-1 against competing teams so far this season. Campbell's women are 8-4 in meets to this point and won the Radford Invitational and the UNCW Seahawk Invitational before winter break. 

The last time ODU's men were in the pool, they lost to UMBC 160.5-133.5.

Sidni Hoxha and Vitor Sa had strong performances for Old Dominion. Hoxha and Sa along with Ben Hansen also won the 400-yard freestyle relay race with a time of 3:09.25.

Hoxha's also won the 100-yard freestyle (45.85) and placed second (1:42.18) in the 200-yard freestyle race.

Sa also had a pair of second place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (22.24) and the 100-yard butterfly (51.42). Francisco Byrne finished just behind Sa in third place with a time of 52.27 in the 100-yard butterfly.


Bernardo Figueredo cruised to a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle as he finished in 9:41.07.



The Monarchs swept the 200-yard IM race, as Carter Watson took first (1:57.38), Edward Hubert placed second (2:02.50) and Brian Burns, Daniel Chalfant and Ben Leach placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:18.25.


Reed Mathews completed the 200-yard butterfly race in 1:54.75, which earned him a second place finish.

The Monarch are now 3-2 in their dual meets this season.

ODU's women also dropped their meet against UMBC, 162-127. 

Ashley Luchsinger, finished just behind Hubert and took third place in the 100-yard butterfly race. Hubert also won the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.26).

The Lady Monarchs are now 5-3 in their meets this season.
