Jan. 17, 2013

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University football has signed D.J. Simon and Scott Wiggins to National Letters of Intent, ODU Head Coach Bobby Wilder announced on Thursday. Both Scott and Wiggins will join the Monarchs for the spring semester.

"We are excited to have D.J. and Scott join our football family. The fact they joined our great University in January means they get a head start on their academic and football careers," Wilder said. "A special thanks to our tremendous support staff that worked to help all our mid-year student athletes enroll at Old Dominion."

Wiggins is a 6-2, 225 pound defensive end from Fork Union Military Academy (Virginia). He played at Abraham Clark in Roselle, New Jersey and earned All-Group 2 honors as a defensive end. Wiggins helped Fork Union to a 6-3 record, including a five-game winning streak, this season.

Simon is a 6-1, 220 pound linebacker from Navarro College (Cosicana, Texas). Simon helped Navarro to a 10-2 record and the Southwest Junior College Football Conference championship. Simon finished second on the team in tackles with 61 and also recorded a sack and an interception. Simon becomes the ninth Navarro College player to join a Division I program this spring. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
