Four Lady Monarchs Compete in Australia in January

NORFOLK, Va. - Four members of the Old Dominion University field hockey team have competed or are scheduled to compete in Australia this month. 

Junior Kati Nearhouse and sophomore Kelsey Smither are set to begin competition at the Austalian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) on Wednesday as part of the United States Junior National team. All games will be played in Sydney's Olympic Park as the U.S. is scheduled to begin action with China on Wednesday, then faces host Australia on Thursday and Great Britain on Saturday. The Bronze and Gold medal matches take place on Sunday.

Meanwhile, freshmen Teisha King and Sarah Breen helped lead their state to victory back home as Victoria's U21 Indoor Team won the national championship on Sunday. After the final match was deadlocked at 3-3, Victoria defeated New South Wales in a thriller on the game's 16th penalty stroke.

King scored a goal in a game in both the first and second day of compeition for Victoria.
