ODU vs. UMBC: Final Results

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University men’s and women’s swimming/diving teams dropped close meets to UMBC in the UMBC Aquatic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Monarchs: 133.5 UMBC: 160.5
Bernardo Figueredo cruised to a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle as he finished in 9:41.07.
The Monarchs swept the 200-yard IM race, as Carter Watson took first (1:57.38), Edward Hubert placed second (2:02.50) and Ryan Telep (2:04.64) finished in third.
Hubert, Brian Burns, Daniel Chalfant and Ben Leach placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:18.25.
Reed Mathews completed the 200-yard butterfly race in 1:54.75, which earned him a second place finish.
Lady Monarchs: 127 UMBC: 162
Kimberley Rashleigh picked up right where she left off, as she won three different races for the Lady Monarchs. Rashleigh won the 100-yard backstroke (58.98), 200-yard backstroke (2:06.44) and the 200-yard IM (2:10.32) races.
Jessica Hubert finished ahead of everyone in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.58. Teammate, Ashley Luchsinger, finished just behind Hubert and took third place in the 100-yard butterfly race. Hubert also won the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.26).
Yesim Giresunlu continued to perform well for the Lady Monarchs as she won the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.43) and the 1000-yard freestyle (10:20.00).
Laura Cempel finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.55) and the 200-yard IM (2:13.40). Christine Canty also placed in the 200-yard IM, as she took third with a time of 2:25.65.
Morgan Johnson completed the 50-yard freestyle in 25.32, which earned her a second place finish. Abby Vance placed third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.64).
Johnson and Vance were also part of a team along with Mackenzie Payment and Ashley Luchsinger that won the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Old Dominion will be back in action on Jan. 19, when they will compete against Campbell and East Carolina in Greenville, N.C.
