Buchan's Career Day Powers Old Dominion Past Dartmouth, 73-59

NORFOLK, Va. - Redshirt senior Mairi Buchan scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Old Dominion University women's basketball team over Dartmouth on Sunday at the Ted Constant Convocation Center, 73-59.

The Lady Monarchs overcame a sluggish start as they went 0-for-10 from the field to start the game while Dartmouth started 9-for-12 and shot 59.1 percent in the first half. The Lady Monarchs forced 15 turnovers before half to climb back into things and closed on a 23-9 run going into break and never trailed again as they move to 5-1 on the season.

In the second half, ODU turned up the pressure defensively as they held the Big Green to 27.3 percent from the field. Senior Jackie Cook ignited the offense scoring 10 of her 19 points in the second half including a pair of three-pointers as the Lady Monarchs shot 46.4 percent from the field after halftime.

Buchan had 16 first half points and 23 for the game while finishing 8-for-13 from the field in 31 minutes off the bench to go along with four rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Sophomore Tiffany Minor matched her career-high with 10 points in 20 minutes off the bench to go along with two blocks and two rebounds. Sophomore Shae Kelley added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds while sophomore Ashley Betz-White and freshman Galaisha Goodhope combined for 11 assists in the game.

Dartmouth (1-5), who hit seven three-pointers on Sunday after ODU had allowed just eight three-pointers in five games coming into the game, was led by Faziah Steen who had 16 points and Nicola Zimmer who put in 17 points.

The Lady Monarchs forced 23 Dartmouth turnovers in the game and the ODU bench outscored the Big Green, 39-15. In addition, the Lady Monarchs had a 47-22 advantage in points in the paint and had 19 fast break points to Dartmouth's zero.

The Lady Monarchs conclude their three-game homestand on Friday, Dec. 7 when they host North Carolina Central at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The game will be played at 11 a.m. as part of ODU's Education Day where several local elementary and middle schools will be on hand for the contest.
