ODU Sweeps Mason While Men Topple Towson and Lady Monarchs Down Northeastern

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University swimming and diving teams had a successful weekend at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool as the men defeated both George Mason and Towson while the Lady Monarchs downed George Mason and Northeastern.

The Monarchs started the day off strong in the first event on Saturday winning the men's 200 yard medley relay behind Andrew Crockett, Jason Haigh, Vitor Sa and Ben Leach with a time of 1:35.32. Sa continued his hot weekend with a victory in the men's 100 yard butterfly at 50.54 while teammate Sidni Hoxha won the men's 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.27.

In the men's 100 yard breaststroke, ODU went 1-2 as Haigh won it at 58.84 while Edward Hubert came in second at 59.20. Again going 1-2 for ODU this time in the men's 100 yard backstroke, Crockett won it a time of 52.62 while Daniel Chalfant came in second for ODU at 53.39. In the men's 200 yard backstroke, Ryan Telep placed second while Chaflant took third for ODU. Hoxha won the men's 100 yard freestyle easily at 45.47 while Haigh and Hubert went 1-2 in the men's 200 yard breaststroke for ODU. Closing out the weekend, ODU won the men's 400 yard freestyle relay behind Vitor, Ben Hansen, Crockett and Hoxha who blew the field away with a 3:04.37 finish which was over five seconds faster than second place George Mason.

The Lady Monarchs also came out firing in their first event as Kimberley Rashleigh won the women's 400 yard IM with a time of 4:25.21. Rashleigh would also take first in the women's 100 yard backstroke with a time of 57.40 and in the women's 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.01. Yesim Giresunlu took second in the women's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.04. Morgan Johnson took second in the women's 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.33.

In diving, Danny Rabe took third in the men's 1 meter with a score of 213.05 while Kady Holland placed sixth in the women's three meter with a score of 165.80 to pace ODU.

Both teams are back in action at the Nike Cup on Nov. 16-18 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
