Monarchs Host Virginia State Monday Night In Final Exhbition Contest

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Monarchs host the Trojans of Virginia State University Mondaynight at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in the final exhbition game. Game timeis 7 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults and $13 for ODU faculty staff, military andsenior citizens.

The Trojans (Petersburg, VA.) are members of the NCAA Division II CIAA and are coached by Darryl Jacobs who is in his first season. VSU will be led by returneesKenny Mitchell (6-9, Sr, 15.9 ppg/6.4 rpg), Daniel Awosanya (6-8, Sr, F, 5.9 ppg,3.9 rpg), Mike Bynum (5-10, Sr, G, 5.5 ppg) and DeVonte' Williams (5-10, So, G, 7.5 ppg).

The ODU Monarchs opened the exhbition season last Thursday with a 102-65 win overMount Olive. Senior guard and co-captian Donte Hill led ODU with 22 points, sixrebounds and five assists. Freshman Aaron Bacote added 20 points with five assistsand sophomore gard Dimitri Batten added 17 points and a game high nine rebounds.

ODU shot a blistering .661 (39-59) from the floor, including .533 (8-15) from three-point range. ODU also dominated the boards, 51-32.

ODU opens the regular season hosting the Liberty Tax Classic, presented by Athletesin Action beginning Friday, Nov. 9-11 with two games each day. ODU will open againstHoly Cross at 7:15 preceeded by the UT San Antonio-Morgan State contest at 5 p.m.

FOOD DONATION

There will be a food drive in conjuction with the Governor's Holiday Hoops Classicon Dec 22nd in Richmond where ODU will play Virginia. There will be a friendly competition to see who can contribute the most food between now and dec. 15th.

The following events will be promoted as opportunities to donate to the food drive.

The Liberty Tax Classic - $3 discount at the door with a food donation, (or provide the group rate) for any of the three daysWrestling match vs. Wisconsin -$2 discount - or $4 admission with donationODU vs. Cal - women's bball - Nov. 30 - group discount admission of $5 with donationODU-VCU game on Dec. 7 - no discounts, no incentives.

All food donations during the Liberty Tax Classic games next weekend should be directed to the Raisin Canes Guest Services area on the concourse of the Constant Center. Fans can receive a $3 discount on tickets purchased to these three games. They will need to inform the ticket seller that they have a food donation in order to get the discount.
