ELON, N.C. - In their second tournament of the fall all eight Monarchs won their first round match while Carlos Lopez Villa and Alfredo Rodriguez had two wins apiece to lead Old Dominion University men's at the Elon Invitational.
Albert Ochagavia and Lopez Villa each played in A 1 Singles and pulled out first round wins. Ochagavia defeated UNC Greensboro's Ahmet Sariouglu 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 before falling to East Carolina's Joran Viliegen 7-6, 6-1 in his next match.
Lopez Villa started with a 6-4, 6-4 win over USC Upstate's Mattias Kidler and knocked off Yusuke Kusuda of Coastal Carolina 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the second round. In the third round he fell 6-4, 6-0 to Stefan Fortmann of Elon.
Dante Terenzio won his opening match in A 2 Singles against Hugo Ramadier of James Madison, 6-1, 6-0 but lost in the second round to Elon's Robert Lindgren 7-6, 6-4.
B 1 Singles featured Wesley Barrett and Zvonimir Podvinski both opening with wins. Barrett defeated Sebastian Fauchet of Richmond 6-4, 6-0 before falling to Gaston Murray of UNCG, 7-6, 6-0 in the second round.
Podvinski beat JMU's Rob Stirling 6-4, 6-2 before dropping his second round match to David Clavera of Campbell, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
Tim Schweig competed in B 2 Singles and defeated Ryan Matthews of UNC Asheville in his first round match. In the second round he dropped a 7-6, 6-4 decision to Rik Van Gerwen of Campbell.
Darragh Glavin opened his first round match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Chris Geaslen of Elon. Glavin fell in a tough three-set match to UNCG's Will Albright in the second round, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Alfredo Rodriguez had a solid run at C 2 Singles, defeating James Flynn of UNCG 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round before knocking off Ismael Sanchez of Elon in another tough three-setter, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. He fell to UNCA's Brett Landau of UNCA in the semifinals.
