COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Old Dominion University women's soccer opens up the 2012 season Friday as they travel to Maryland for an exhibition match at 6 p.m.
The Lady Monarchs return six starters from a year ago and added seven newcomers.
Senior Ashlee Coutu is the leading returning scorer from last season with five goals and 10 points while junior Amber Cook added three goals and sophomore Taylor Smith had two.
Senior Brianna Alvarado started every game in goal last season, recording 79 saves and posting a 2.29 goals against average. Fellow senior Laura Bush appeared in five games and made eight saves.
Maryland went 12-6-4 last year and advanced to the sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. They return their top three leading scorers from a year ago, as Hayley Brock led the team in points with 19 while Olivia Wagner had a team-best eight goals.
Shannon Zickler is the only returning goalkeeper that played last year, appearing in two contests.
ODU opens regular season play on Friday, Aug. 17 against NC State at 7 p.m.
