GREENVILLE, N.C. - Kendall Frey scored the only goal in the 70th minute to lift East Carolina over Old Dominion University women's soccer in a driving rain Wednesday night in Greenville.
With the win, ECU improves to 1-1 while ODU drops to 1-1 on the young season.
In the 70th minute, Kelly Miller sent a cross pass from the right that Frey headed into the right side of the goal to give the Pirates the 1-0 lead.
Just after the goal ODU had a chance when Kelly Farrell sent a touch pass to Taylor Mertz whose shot sailed just over the cross bar.
In the 18th minute, East Carolina's Hali Oughton took a shot from 20 yards out that skipped on the slick turf and took a high bounce that Brianna Alvarado got a hand on to keep the game scoreless.
In the 50th minute Rachel Fuller got a header off from 10 yards out that Alvarado made a diving stop to the left to keep the slate clean.
Alvarado made five saves in goal for ODU while Cordero made one stop for the Pirates.
The Lady Monarchs continue their road trip when they travel to Hartford on Sunday, Aug. 26.
