COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Old Dominion University hung with No. 13 Maryland but Olivia Wagner scored the only game of the match in the 19th minute as the Terps defeated ODU 1-0 Friday night in an exhibition match in College Park.
Wagner scored the only goal of the match off a corner kick that just crossed the goal line before being cleared out by an ODU defender.
Brianna Alvarado made eight saves in goal for the Lady Monarchs.
The Lady Monarchs' best chances came when Jessie Klamut broke in alone but her shot was stopped by the keeper and Amber Cook's shot just went high over the crossbar.
ODU played 22 players in the match and at times featured six freshmen on the field at once against a Maryland team that made the Sweet 16 a year ago.
Old Dominion opens the regular season against another ACC opponent, NC State, on Friday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.
The Lady Monarchs will host the ninth annual Charity Kicks Clinic along with the men's soccer team tomorrow morning with registration starting at 8:30 a.m.
