NORFOLK, VA--The NCAA has informed Old Dominion University that it has approved the waiver for 6-9 Center/forward DeShawn Painter (Norfolk, Va.) and he will be eligible to compete for the Monarch Cagers in the 2012-13 season.

Our compliance people ML Morgan and Sandie Niedergall did a thorough job in presenting to the NCAA. The result is very fair and to have this information in July is pretty timely. Painter averaged 6.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for N.C. State who reached the NCAA Sweet 16 and compiled a 24-13 record. Painter played in all 37 games with seven starts. Painter scored 10 points against Boston College in ACC Tournament , a career ACC high 18 points at Miami and hit 4-5 from the floor and nine points in NCAA Tournament win over San Diego State. He also hit the game-winner in NC State's 60-58 win over Princeton.
