NORFOLK, VA--The NCAA has informed Old Dominion University that it has approved the waiver for 6-9 Center/forward DeShawn Painter (Norfolk, Va.) and he will be eligible to compete for the Monarch Cagers in the 2012-13 season.

"We are all obviously very pleased to see the result of Deshawn's appeal. Pastor Gregory Perry and North Carolina State presented a positive situation. Our compliance people ML Morgan and Sandie Niedergall did a thorough job in presenting to the NCAA. The result is very fair and to have this information in July is pretty timely. I am sure DeShawn is relieved and we can now move forward with a much clearer focus." - ODU head coach Blaine Taylor.

"This is truly a blessing, I got something off my shoulders. It feels good to be close to home and my family. My grandmother is ill, and she raised me. I feel that this is my duty to be there for her. I am excited to have the opportunity to play right away with my new set of teammates. They are a great bunch of guys and I am looking forward to the upcoming season."- DeShawn Painter

Painter averaged 6.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for N.C. State who reached the NCAA Sweet 16 and compiled a 24-13 record. Painter played in all 37 games with seven starts. Painter scored 10 points against Boston College in ACC Tournament , a career ACC high 18 points at Miami and hit 4-5 from the floor and nine points in NCAA Tournament win over San Diego State. He also hit the game-winner in NC State's 60-58 win over Princeton.
