LETHRIDGE, AB--Two-time All-CAA golfer Samantha Morrell (North Kingstown, RI.) is tied for ninth after two rounds of the Royale Cup Canadian Women's Amateur Championship at the Lethbridge Country Club in Alberta, Canada. Morrell shot 73-73=146(+2) and made the cut to advance to the third round on Thursday.
Morrell is tied for ninth with Brogan McKinnon of Mississauga, ON, and Ana Julia Menendez of Mexico.
Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand leads the event (69-67=136) by three strokes over Jisoo Keel of Coquitlam, BC. (70-69=139). The tournament champion earns exemptions intothe Canadian women's Open and the U.S. Women's Amateur.
Morrell entered the tournament after finishing second at the New England Women's Golf Association Amateur tournament on July 11th after shooting 74-75-74=223.
During the 2011-12 season Morrell was named First Team All-CAA. She had five top 10 finishes which included a seventh at CAA Championships and Hoya Classic, and a fourth at the Campbell Fall Classic. She was named Co-CAA Golfer of the Week on Oct. 12 after winning the East Carolina Lady Pirate Classic Morrell posted a 74.8 overall stroke average.
