Monarchs Host Longwood Tuesday Night

NORFOLK, VA-- The Monarchs return home for a Tuesday night game against the Lancersof Longwood University. Game time is 6 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

Longwood comes into the game with a 22-19 record and are led in hitting by Justin Lacy with a .397 batting average with five homers and 30 RBI. He has scored 31 times. Catcher Scott Burkett is hitting .368 with six homers and 30 RBI followedby Robby Newman with a .346 average, 10 homers and 42 RBI.

Longwood is scheduled to start senior righthander Matt Gwaltney (1-4/4.18 ERA)Tuesday night.

ODU is fresh off taking two of three games at CAA rival William and Mary over theweekend. Freshman outfielder Josh Eldridge leads the team with a .315 batting average along wiht 11 doubles and four triples.

Junior firstbaseman Austin McGowan is hitting .301, followed by senior catcherJosh Tutwiler at .299 with seven homers and 27 RBI. Senior shortstop Josh Wrightis hitting .297 with 47 runs scored, six homers, 14 doubles and 16 stolen bases.Wright ranks among the CAA leaders in runs, and stolen bases.

Senior outfielder Chris Baker is hitting .273 with seven homers and a team best 39RBI.

The Monarchs are scheduled to start junior righthander Mike Ney (0-0/0.00 ERA).Sophomore Dean Ali is 2-4 with a 2.08 ERA and two saves, followed by Dylan Brattonwith a 2.95 ERA. Junior reliever Brandon Smith leads the CAA with an 8-1 markwith a 3.50 ERA along with three saves.

ODU travels this weekend to Boston for a three-game CAA series against Northeasternbefore returning home for the final home weekend series against Georgia State.
