RICHMOND, VA-- Old Dominion University golfers Samantha Morrell (North Kingstown, RI.) and Elizabeth Haycock (Birmingham, England) have been named first team All-CAAas selected by the league's head coaches.
For Haycock, a sophomore, this is her second straight first team selection. For Morrell, a junior this is her first selection to the first team, but her thirdstraight All CAA honor. She was also the CAA Rookie of the Year in 2010.
Morrell had five top ten finishes this season. In the fall she won the Lady PirateIntercollegiate and placed fourth at the Campbell Fall Classic with a 74.4 fall stroke average. In the Spring, she placed second at UNCW and seventh at the HoyaInvitational as well as the CAA Championships.Her spring stroke average was 75.4.Morrell was named the team MVP at last month's Athletic Awards banquet.
Haycock tied for fourth at Towson in the fall season, tied for second at Pinehurstwon the Hoya Invitational and finished fourth at the CAA Championships. She and Morrell were both honored in the spring as CAA Golfers of the Week. Haycock finished the spring season with a 74.5 stroke average.
As a team, under first year head coach Carol Robertson the Lady Monarchs had five top five finishes which included first places at Towson in the Fall and the Hoya Invitational in the Spring.
Georgia State senior Charlotte Lorentzen was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golfer of the Year for the third consecutive season.Also earning top honors from the conference were Georgia State's Lauren Court as CAA Rookie of the Year and UNCW's Cindy Ho as CAA Coach of the Year.
