ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The No. 14 Old Dominion University coed sailing team tied for fifth at the MAISA Team Race Championships/Prosser Trophy at St. Mary's College over the weekend.
ODU went 6-8 over the weekend, going 3-4 in each round to tie for fifth place falling just short of reaching the final four stage. Saturday's breeze from the northwest allowed for 47 races to be completed while Sunday had a tricky breeze also from the northwest but round two was completed by noon.
The No. 14 Monarchs swept No. 4 Georgetown in addition to Cornell for four wins while also picking up wins against No. 13 Navy and Washington College on the weekend. Host No. 11 St. Mary's College (Md.) won the event to earn the Prosser Trophy followed by No. 7 Hobart and William Smith, No. 4 Georgetown and No. 13 Navy.
Competing for ODU in all races was junior skipper Dillon Paiva and sophomore crew Chloe Constants along with sophomore skipper Brady Stagg and senior crew Emily Reich. Splitting time in the third boat was senior skipper Gavin Rudolph and sophomore crew Jill Fattibene and sophomore skipper Scott Hoffmann and sophomore crew Julia Wiesner.
"We came up a little short this weekend," said ODU head coach Mitch Brindley. "As a whole though, we progressed in team racing and can build off this for next weekend."
Old Dominion returns to action again next weekend when travel to Geneva, N.Y, and the America Trophy Conference Championship Race hosted by Hobart and William Smith. The Lady Monarchs will also take part in the Emily Wick Women's Intersectional also going on in New London, Conn.
