BEALLSVILLE, MD.-- The ODU Lady Monarchs continued its consistent play by capturing the Hoya Invitational by three strokes as sophomore Elizabeth Haycock shot 77-72-74 for 223 to win the medalist honors by three strokes as well at the Members Club at Four Streams.
ODU shot 325-312 and a final round best of 307 for a 54-hole score of 944 in itsfirst spring tournament win and second overall title. Eastern Michigan, Nova Southeastern and St. John's were tied for second at 947.
Haycock finished ahead of Harin Lee of St. John's and Abbey Gittings of Nova Southeastern who shot 226 for the 54-hole tournament. Haycock was eighth in par 3 scoring at 3.25 and third in par four scoring at 4.13. She had eight birdies whichwas second most in the event.
Junior Samantha Morrell shot 75 in the final round to finish at 235 and tie for seventh with Tiffany Cheung of Penn and Isabel Han of Penn. Kimberley Bradburyfinished at 243 to tie for 24th.
Morrell led the tournament in par five scoring at 4.92 and had 29 total pars. As a team, ODU led the tournament with 20 birdies and was second to Eastern Michiganin pars with 139.
Thus far this spring, ODU took second at the UNCW Classic and third at the Pinehurst Challenge as well as tie for eighth at Kiawah Island. In the last threeevents, Samantha Morrell has finished second (at Seahawk Classic), and Haycock hastied for second (Pinehurst) and captured an event.
The Lady Monarchs compete in the CAA Women's Golf Championships April 20-22 inSouthport, NC.
