Lady Monarchs Compete In CAA Championships Beginning Friday

The ODU Lady Monarchs begin play in the 2012 CAA Women's Golf Championships on Friday morning at the St. James Plantation in Southport, N.C. The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Sunday afternoon with the winning team earning an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. ODU will tee off at 9:45 am.

Eleven women's teams will battle at the par 72, 6,066-yard Reserve Club course. Just three teams have ever won the CAA women's golf championship title: James Madison, Georgia State and UNCW. Defending champion UNCW came from behind to clinch its third CAA title in 2011. The Seahawks are on pace to battle for another title as they enter the tournament ranked No. 2 among the team standings, with Sofia Hagsund, Laverry Kumar and Lori Beth Adams among the best in the league leading UNCW. Delaware, who added a program this past season, will compete in its first CAA Championship.

Other top contenders include top-ranked Georgia State, which is led by 2011 CAA Individual Medalist Charlotte Guilleux and Charlotte Lorentzen, who enters the tournament a top all CAA players. Old Dominion follows ranked third with Elizabeth Haycock and Samantha Morrell leading the Lady Monarchs. James Madison enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed with the second top player in the league in Nicole Sakamoto, and Xavier follows as the fifth-seeded team. The top four teams will tee-off the 1st tee on Friday morning, while the other half of the field will start the split-tee start at #10.

The three-day event will open with split tees each day and live scoring will be available. Friday and Saturday first tee times will be at 9 am, while Sunday will kick-off at 8 am. The tournaments will conclude on Sunday afternoon with the award ceremonies.
