NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University men's tennis opens the CAA Tennis Championship on Friday, April 20 when they take on James Madison at 4 p.m.
The Monarchs are the No. 4 seed and 12-9 on the year and face the No. 5 seeded Dukes who are 11-9 on the season.
ODU won the previous meeting between the two schools earlier in the year, topping JMU 4-3 on February 12 indoors at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.
Senior Krzysztof Muzalewski has played No. 1 singles for the Monarchs this season in all but two matches and is 11-10 on the year. Freshman Carlos Lopez Villa is 12-8 overall and 7-3 at the No. 2 position.
Wesley Barrett leads the squad in wins with a 15-6 mark, posting an 8-2 mark at No. 4 singles.
The Monarchs have played solid doubles lately, winning the doubles point in four of the last five matches. Albert Ochagavia and Lopez Villa are the reigning CAA Doubles Team of the Week and are 6-0 as a tandem.
James Madison is 11-9 overall and won their last three matches.
The Dukes are led by Ryan Pool who is 14-5 during the spring, playing all 19 matches at No. 2 singles.
Hugo Ramadier is second on the team with a 13-5 mark, going 5-0 at No. 4.
The winner will play on Saturday at 10 a.m. against the winner of the VCU vs. Delaware/Drexel winner.
